Osteoporosis is a progressive disease, which causes the bones to thin and weaken, often without any pain. You may not know you have osteoporosis until your bones become so fragile that a strain, bump or fall causes a fracture. People at greater risk for osteoporosis:
- Slender body build.
- Low Calcium intake.
- Smoking.
- Lack of weight-bearing exercise.
- High caffeine
- Family history of colon cancer.
- Family history of hip fracture.
- Family history of osteoporosis.
- Personal history of fractures.
- Lactose intolerance.
- Prolonged immobilization.
