Osteoporosis Information & Risk Factors

Osteoporosis is a progressive disease, which causes the bones to thin and weaken, often without any pain. You may not know you have osteoporosis until your bones become so fragile that a strain, bump or fall causes a fracture. People at greater risk for osteoporosis:

  • Slender body build.
  • Low Calcium intake.
  • Smoking.
  • Lack of weight-bearing exercise.
  • High caffeine
  • Family history of colon cancer.
  • Family history of hip fracture.
  • Family history of osteoporosis.
  • Personal history of fractures.
  • Lactose intolerance.
  • Prolonged immobilization.
